Video Short Courses on HMA

image4421.jpgThe Engineering Extension Service of Auburn University, in cooperation with the National Center for Asphalt Technology, is offering two short video courses on hot mix asphalt (HMA) mix design and HMA pavement construction. These distant learning courses vary in length from 5 to 10 hours.

The description of these courses is given below. Each video course purchased for individual use consists of video tapes, printed notes and a short examination which can be mailed back to record your individual continuing education unit (CEU) credit at the rate of 0.1 CEU per hour of course time. Your prepaid order by mail, fax or our toll-free number will be delivered rapidly. Overnight delivery is available for an additional charge.

Fees are listed below to reflect individual or organizational purchase. Organizations may purchase video and on-line courses under a limited duration agreement which allows for unlimited viewing for one year. This arrangement also allows for an unlimited number of CEU certificates, but an additional assessment of $15 per certificate is required to cover the cost of issuing and recording the certificates. Contact the Engineering Extension Service for details on receiving CEU credit for group viewing of a video or on-line course.

Course Schedule

Asphalt Pavement Preservation & Rehabilitation

The objective of this course is to assist an engineer in the development of the most reliable and cost-effective rehabilitation alternatives for asphalt pavements. The abilities of the engineer required to preserve the existing pavement system are much different than those required to originally design the system. They need to have an understanding of what caused the distress they are seeing and what steps can be taken to correct them. The course is broken into two units: pavement management concepts and pavement rehabilitation procedures. The first unit will address pavement management concepts at the project level which will include an overview of pavement management, pavement structural and condition assessment, distress mechanisms for Hot Mix Asphalt and project evaluation. The second unit provides information on pavement rehabilitation through pavement maintenance techniques, surface rehabilitation procedures, recycling of asphalt pavements, and asphalt overlays.
