Goals and Objectives
This program is designed to help increase the pool of qualified civil engineers and technologists for the future, by providing faculty with an educational background in Hot Mix Asphalt and asphalt technology.
Program Content
This eight-day course, held in June every year, consists of intensive lectures, laboratory exercises, and discussions to investigate all phases of asphalt technology including:
Asphalt cement
Aggregates
Hot Mix Asphalt
Construction
Design and Rehabilitation
Laboratory exercises include asphalt binder characterization tests, aggregate characterization tests, and HMA mix design and analysis.
Materials
Each participant is provided a copy of the HMA textbook and other supporting documents. The participant will leave the course with materials needed to teach a course in asphalt technology.
Eligibility
There is no fee for the course or associated materials for any applicants living in the U.S. In addition, a limited number of eligible participants will receive a stipend to cover some housing, food, and transportation costs. To be eligible for the stipend, applicants must be living and working in the U.S. as a university professor, instructor at a 2-year college or trade school, or as a civil engineering Ph.D. candidate interested in teaching. Stipend recipients must attend the entire course in order to receive the stipend. Instructors from colleges outside the U.S. will also be considered for attendance for a $500 fee and will not be eligible for the stipend. References from department heads are required.

Continuing Eduation
The course will provide 5.2 CEUs or 52 Professional Development Hours.
Location
This course will be conducted at NCAT's research facility in Auburn Technology Park, Auburn, Alabama. Hotel accommodations are close by; however, there is no public transportation in our area.
